ADA Position Statements
What is a Position Statement?
An
ADA position is a statement of the Association’s stance on an issue
that affects the nutritional status of the public.
It is derived from pertinent
facts and data, and is germane to ADA’s mission, vision, philosophy,
values, and strategic initiatives. A position consists of two parts: one or
two sentences
that convey the main points and a support paper that provides the scientific
rationale. Each position with its accompanied support paper is published in
the JADA.
Visit the ADA World Wide Web site: www.eatright.org to
see the list of current positions. Another alternative is to contact the Governance
Team at AD Headquarters, 800-877-1600 extension 4898. In addition every February
a list of current positions is published in the ADA reports section of the
JADA
Position Concepts
When a position concept is accepted it means that a reference panel of individuals
qualified in the particular area will be convened to review the concept and develop/refine
the necessary background paper to support the concept.
The concept and the supporting
paper will be brought to the HOD for review, discussion and revision before the
concept will be voted on for acceptance or rejection as an ADA position. Below
is a listing of the position concepts that were accepted by the HOD.
It is important
that we receive feedback from members on these concepts.
Please respond with
questions and comments, supporting or arguing against these concepts. It will
be your input which will decide whether the delegates of New York State vote
for or against these concepts. Your input is valuable and necessary.
